Meudon forest, France, November 2024
In 2022, with your support, the reforestation project in Meudon national forest restored plots affected by chestnut ink disease. Thanks to your contributions, A Tree for You and the French Forestry Office (Office national des forêts, ONF) has adopted a bold strategy to replant the forest using more resilient and diverse tree species.
Over the winter of 2022/2023, more than 4,500 trees were replanted on two affected plots. A total area of around five hectares was reforested. During monitoring in May 2024, a 95% survival rate was observed. This confirms the young seedlings have recovered well and the species introduced are adapting appropriately. Sessile oak, hornbeam and Atlas cedar were planted on these plots. Introducing new species aims to increase the forest’s resilience to climate change and disease, while strengthening local biodiversity.
Sessile oaks, in particular, are robust trees capable of adapting to different types of soil and better withstanding drought conditions.
Thanks to the funds raised, we financed not only the tree planting, but also post-planting monitoring and maintenance operations, thus ensuring a high survival rate. With a survival rate of over 95%, we are well ahead of our target of planting 4,100 lasting trees planted by the project end.
